How is the contrast administered?

The contrast dye is injected into a vein, usually in the arm, during the scan.

You may feel a cool sensation or mild metallic taste during injection.

How long does the test take?

Without contrast: ~20–30 minutes

With contrast: ~30–45 minutes
The entire appointment may take about an hour, including prep and recovery time.

Are there any risks or side effects?

Most people tolerate the dye well. Rare side effects may include:

Mild nausea or headache

Allergic reactions (very rare)

Nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF) in people with severe kidney disease
